Most people dream of owning their own home one day. But a special few go a step further and imagine what their vacation home would look like. And nothing says holiday house like an A-frame house.

As the name suggests, houses with an A-frame plan are characterized by a triangular or A shape. Andrew Geller is the architect credited with this spectacular design that won international acclaim when it was featured in The New York Times in 1957 and has been a popular house since then.

The low cost of building the A Frame House Plans structure has been instrumental in including it remains well liked. It also does not hurt that an increased number of people have additional disposable income which has replied in renewed interest in acquiring secondary homes for vacation purposes. Even with the drastic changes in the economy the A-frame plan still remains relatively affordable.

The plan is also highly flexible which allows you to play around with its design to get something unique that has your signature as a home owner on it. The only thing holding you back here is your imagination and ability to dream.

The A-shape results from having the tips of the roof almost touch the ground and rise to meet in the middle at an acute angle very similar to the letter A. It may sound weird having a roof that reaches the ground but think about it this way- you do not have dozens of walls that need painting. In general the entire house have very few vertical walls which amounts to less time spent maintaining your home and more time enjoying everything it has to offer.

The house tend to be between one and a half and two and a half stories in height. The steep sloping roof is not only aesthetically pleasant but also quite functional as it allows snowfall to fall right off to the ground rather than gathering on the rooftop. Another benefit is the creation of a partial floor plan at the top of the house which can be used either as a loft or as a storage area.

The exterior part of the house is mostly made out of wood which gives it a very outdoorsy feel especially in the mountains. It's a lot like having a tree house that is not actually on a tree … which works well for people who 'either never cared much climbing trees as children or simply can not revel in the joy anymore thanks to the restrictions that come with age and propriety.

Yet another class feature of this house plan is the large oversized windows at the front and the rear of the house that provide dramatic lighting throughout the year. With strategic placement of the windows you can also get a breathtaking view of the mountains, lake, beach or whatever tickles your fancy.

As if that is not enough, you also get a deck where you can sip on your coffee as you watch the sunrise or have a small family barbeque. Either way you look at it, if you're thinking of building a vacation home, the A frame house plans is a darn good option.
